First Place:
Christopher Columbus
By Sidney Campbell
Born in Italy
Raised there, too.
He was quite a sailor—
Never a failure.
Spain sent him afloat
In a great big boat.
So in 1492
He sailed the ocean blue,
Out to find spices
And Bargain prices.
He came back with information
That shocked the nation.
He discovered the U.S.
And became famous
Second Place:
I Dream of Pizza
by Elisa Lee
I wake up from a nap
And I will eat a snack
That is a cheese pizza.
I take a bite
And spin in delight
Because I love pizza!
Then I fall asleep
And dream about spaghetti
And garlic bread,
and about the linguini,
And the boats of Italy,
Because that’s where I want to be
when I am happy.
Third Place:
Christopher Columbus
By Jasmyne L. Davis
Christopher Columbus,
Christopher Columbus
I would have called him Gus.
But I wasn’t in his time which was 1492.
He had boats, more than two.
The Queen gave him money, not the King
I might as well sing.
He discovered the Bahamas,
They all said, "Goodbye," to their mamas.
Christopher Columbus, he made it in history.
Some people say it’s a mystery.
He wanted to sail for India
But you got Spain, didn’t ya?
Christopher Columbus,
Christopher Columbus,
Yeah, I would have called him Gus.
